What Got Me Up the Mountain
When Erika's dear friend David was diagnosed with cancer and lost his father in the same week, he made himself a promise: once he was healthy, he'd climb Mount Kilimanjaro. He invited Erika to join him; an old dream of hers, and a daunting one. Months of physical training got her ready for the climb. But on the mountain's coldest night, shivering and out of layers, it was 25 years of mindfulness practice that got her through till morning.

Through our mindfulness practice, we awaken to each new moment with kind curiosity. When we direct our curiosity inward, we might notice: how it feels to breathe, sensations in the body, thoughts on the mind, and we may notice a variety of emotions coming and going. Holding time and space for this noticing, with kind curiosity, can provide insight into how we're doing and lead to self-care strategies if needed.
