    About CMP

Community Mindfulness Project (‘CMP’) is a nonprofit that brings mindfulness programs to under-resourced communities, creating a healthier, happier, more connected Fairfield County, CT. We are an organization and a community that values openness, inclusion, compassion, collaboration, dialogue and growth. We are expanding our team of Mindful Meditation Facilitators who can support our in-person community programs, particularly with our nonprofit and school partners in Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford.

    Position Summary

Community Mindfulness Project is seeking to expand our team of Mindfulness Meditation Facilitators who can support our in-person community programs, with partner organizations in Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford.  We work in under-resourced communities with historically marginalized populations, who may be experiencing high levels of stress and instability. Our mission is to make mindfulness meditation available to our communities through an accessible, engaging and trauma-sensitive approach.

We are actively accepting qualified applicants who maintain their own mindfulness meditation practice, are enthusiastic about supporting historically marginalized populations in Bridgeport, Norwalk, and Stamford, and are receptive to sharing CMP’s proprietary framework of secular, science-based training and practices.

This position requires that you are comfortable speaking in front of large and small groups, creating safe spaces no matter the size, and being the “guide on the side” vs. the “sage on the stage”.  Training on our framework of meditations, mindfulness tools and trauma sensitive approach is paid included in the onboarding process.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Facilitating 2-4 in-person mindfulness meditation sessions per week for our partner organizations with a program that is welcoming, trauma-sensitive, secular and based on CMP’s framework of evidence based practices. These sessions may include working with communities that include (among others):

      • individuals recovering from substance use disorder,

      • formerly incarcerated individuals returning home,

      • grieving family members

      • those managing chronic illness or pain

      • social workers or nonprofit frontline workers experiencing burnout, vicarious trauma and empathy fatigue, etc

    • Committing to Jon Kabat Zinn’s 7 attitudes of mindfulness continued learning through:

      • Building upon your own personal practice and training

      • Attending and participating in CMP’s bi-annual trauma sensitive mindfulness and other key quality improvement trainings for the facilitator team.

      • Co-learning with a commitment to honoring the experience of the participant vs. being the expert (as a ‘Guide on the side’ vs. ‘Sage on the Stage’) with an emphasis on invitation vs. instruction

    Qualifications and Skills

We are seeking candidates with mindfulness meditation practices and enthusiasm for the mission of CMP. We require a high level of reliability and we value strong communication skills. We expect you to be able to travel to the sites where we partner with schools and nonprofits in Bridgeport, Norwalk and/or Stamford.

We will provide training, and will expect you to develop the skills to be able to:

    • Describe CMP’s mission + vision

    • Discuss the scientific benefits of meditation and mindfulness

    • Strive for new angle or insights each time you lead a practice

    • Skillfully navigate Q+A from the group sometimes mixed with beginners and advanced practitioners

    • Listen deeply, including expressing curiosity about the needs and interests of the communities we serve as expressed by the members of those communities.

    • Value a chorus of voices, welcoming perspectives that are different from your own and encouraging dialogue.

    • Clearly articulate the key value and purpose of meditation and mindfulness in a dynamic and engaging way, sometimes to individuals who have never practiced or may be cautiously skeptical.

Please let us know if you speak a language other than English fluently. The ability to speak Spanish, Portuguese, French, Haitian Creole is a plus, but not required.
