Your Home Base

When you meditate, what do you do?

There’s no right or wrong answer. Each of us experiences meditation in our own way. Even when we’re practicing together in one of our meditation circles, what we notice—sounds, sensations, thoughts, emotions—is always personal.

Lately, we’ve been sharing a practice called Home Base in many of our programs. Maybe you’ve already experienced it. If not, it’s a simple and supportive way to settle into meditation.

The practice begins by opening awareness to sounds, noticing them as they come and go. Then attention includes the breath and the sensations of the body—often something steady and grounding, like the soles of the feet on the floor. From there, you’re invited to rest your awareness wherever it feels most supportive in that moment. That place becomes your home base—a place to pause, to rest, and to return to whenever attention wanders.

You might try this at home for just a few minutes. Notice what naturally draws your attention and what feels most resourceful for you today. There’s nothing to get right—just an opportunity to listen and sense.

If you give it a try, I’d love to hear how it goes - feel free to send me an email. What became your home base?

Below are some related resources, and of course we'd love to see you in any of our upcoming programs. Take good care.

Warmly,

Julia
