Your Journey

How are you caring for yourself while you’re building the life you want?

A few years ago, I attended a powerful local conference called Shades of Resilience at CT State, Housatonic. Community leaders, educators, social workers, and students from Bridgeport Public Schools gathered to focus on the mental health of our shared community.

One presenter led the students through a simple but powerful exercise.

On a blank poster board, they marked their starting point — that day in Bridgeport — and their ideal life destination on the opposite corner. They were then asked to name obstacles they might face along their journey: fear, doubt, limited resources, lack of support, lack of opportunities, safety and health concerns. The room grew quieter as the honesty surfaced.

Then, a different tone began to emerge.

Students were invited to fill their boards with the tools they would use to support their wellbeing along the way — practices, people, habits, and strategies to care for their physical, mental, and emotional health. Their boards were transformed with stickers, colorful markers, and glitter.  They became bold, intentional, and hopeful.

Here’s what stayed with me:

  • They didn’t pretend the obstacles wouldn’t exist.

  • They planned for them.

  • They built wellbeing into the journey.

  • And we can do the same.

At any point in our lives, we can redesign our roadmap. We can choose practices that steady us. We can prioritize our wellbeing instead of waiting for burnout to demand it. We can seek support. We can be thoughtful and deliberate.

If you’re receiving this email, something in you already values mindfulness. The question is — will you make time and space for it throughout your journey?

At CMP, we believe in choice and agency. Our programs offer mindfulness tools that might feel meaningful on your roadmap: awareness, resilience, calm, and connection. If meditation supports your wellbeing, we’d love for you to join us.

Your journey is already unfolding.
Let your wellbeing travel with you.

Warmly,

Julia

PS - I made a little image below of what a roadmap with techniques for wellbeing might look like - what you would add or change?
