The Body Scan - Relieving Stress & Fostering Connection
At Community Mindfulness Project, our work brings us into the local communities of Bridgeport, Norwalk, and Stamford. We offer free and open programs at various libraries, community centers, and on zoom. Additionally, we partner with local nonprofits, agencies, educators, and groups, supporting our neighbors with the greatest unmet needs.
Last week, while working in one of our partner programs where we support people reentering society after incarceration, we shared a body scan meditation.
At the end of the meditation we paused and invited a moment of quiet reflection. How were they feeling? What did they notice? Where and when might they imagine doing a body scan meditation in their everyday lives?
You might be able to guess that they felt relaxed and more at ease after the meditation. But I'm especially appreciative to one man for sharing that he'd like to practice this in his everyday life with his wife. He said that their life is stressful, discussions around paying bills, job insecurity and making ends meet, raising kids, and the challenges they were facing wore them down. He thought it would be a nice way to to relax together and connect without the stress. I LOVE that - relieving stress & fostering connection with a loved one through a body scan meditation!
Have you tried a body scan meditation with us? How do you feel afterwards? Where and when might you imagine doing a body scan mediation in your everyday life? We'd love to hear from you - feel free to send me an email.
Warmly,
Julia
