Special Guest for Sound Meditation This Week

This coming week we are delighted to announce that we will have a guest host at 3 of our 4 sessions!* Holly Conetta will offer us the chance to experiment with using sound as a tool to enter into a meditative, deeply relaxed state of being, where the body can rest and restore itself into a harmonized state.

Holly has been studying energetic body work for the past decade, including holistic and somatic body healing studies, Reiki, healing touch, and sound healing.  She has completed 2 levels of training in sound healing, including advanced levels of integrated clinical sound therapy.  She offers monthly restorative Tibetan Singing Bowl concerts in her community, along with weekly Healing Touch sessions as a trained volunteer at Greenwich Hospital in the Integrative Medicine Department.

We hope that you will join us for this experience at our regularly scheduled sessions at Sama Yoga, Ferguson Library and New Canaan Library!  (*Please note, that our Ridgefield session will take place as usual this week and Holly will offer this program at Ridgefield Library at a future date, as there is no way for her to be at both Ridgefield and Sama on Monday night.... Stay tuned!)

Throughout the rest of your week, we invite you to engage with sounds in three different ways:

1.  Notice how you react to different sounds.  You can do this with the attitude of a neutral, curious observer, and without judgement.  You may find that certain sounds evoke emotions, which in turn create sensations in the body (a slight upturning of the corners of the mouth, a tightening of the belly, a sense of peace, or a sense of alarm).  Exploring all of this can be fascinating, and you’ll be  integrating mind and body and raising your emotional wisdom.

2.  Use sounds to anchor you to the present moment; tuning in to all the various sounds in and around you at any moment; noticing timbre, pitch, volume… whether the sounds are near or far.  Spending even brief moments connected to the present moment helps our nervous system reset itself.

3.  Tune in to how sounds have beginnings, middles and ends, just like our thoughts, emotions, events.  Experiment with letting them follow their own arc without needing to be involved.

May all beings everywhere, without exception, find wisdom and joy in the exploration of sounds,
