Weekly Sessions

CMP is a non-profit that offers secular group meditation sessions in libraries, wellness centers and other community hubs. Our weekly sessions are free and open to the public, are appropriate for long-time practitioners as well as first-times, and are accessible to people of all faith traditions and none, all physical abilities and ages.

Discussion and peer-to-peer learning are at the core of the CMP's approach and we encourage regular, dedicated practice to achieve moments of mindfulness.

We focus on practices that have a scientific basis and seek to bring the highest standards of ethics, scholarship and depth of practice to our organization. Numerous recent studies have proven the benefits of meditation, which include improved emotional regulation, focus, resilience, compassion, and mental and physical health.

We also offer one-day retreats, and engage in outreach activities in the communities we serve.

What to expect

Our meditation sessions are generally less than an hour in duration, with about 30 minutes of this time in formal guidance or silence, following a format of -

  • Welcome

  • Guided meditation on this week's topic with periods of silence

  • Reflection

Each week we focus on a different practice alternating between mind focusing and heart opening.

Before the Meditation

  • If the weather is bad, it is a holiday, etc., check-back for any last minute cancellations. Please travel safely.

  • Arrive a few minutes early to transition gently physcially, mentally and emotionally. We strive to start on-time.

  • Let us know if you are a new meditator or joining us for the first time.

  • Silence devices.

During the Meditation

  • There are no unsuccessful or bad meditations. It is called a "practice" with intention. Sitting quietly is beneficial.

  • Practicing meditation will help you notice the thoughts, emotions and sensations that arise in the present moment. This process is not always easy, even experienced meditators struggle with the sometimes deafening "chatter" of our mind. We will practice quieting the mind using proven techniques.

  • Meditation is not sleeping, although it seems to look that way sometimes.

After the Meditation

  • Please get-up slowly and safely.

  • Integrating mindfulness and meditation into your life is beneficial and we will give you tips on how to do it.

  • Regular practice is recommended, so we look forward to you joining us again.

  • We depend on your support to host the sessions and perform our out-reach work, please Click to Donate
